I absolutely still dream about running back from the record library, to DEAD AIR. And the CD players and turntables never work. And they're usually spread out among various rooms. And the headphones are in a different room. And the speakers are in a different room. And I can't find a single CD to play in the whole library.

Who did that "Boys of the Lough" promo circa 1979 or so? Almost 30 years later and I can't get it out of my head :-). I *still* have nightmares about not running back from the "record library" to the studio in time.

Merry fucking christmas, motherfuckers. Big wassup to Darren K & Mike N. Tom M - I don't know you, but I do know Craig J. who does, so I'm old. Once you have offspring, you are officially old, but you start acting silly a lot so it sort of compensates. I hate to plug, but I occassionally spin on KALX in Berkeley. Next time up is Thursday Jan 6 2005 9:30-Midnight PST (that's 6:30-9 for you East Coasters.) You can check it online @ kalx.berkeley.edu. Would be a trip to get a call from one of y'all while on the air...

Thanks to the record librarian too for taking home the boxes of vintage rock records we donated. Hope you made a lot of $$$ on e-bay. Jerk!

Hello all! Hi Eugene! Ho Sheldon! It's not true about Mike Kelmar -- well he did become an Orthodox Jew, but he didn't fall off the face of the earth. He lives in Baltimore. (wait a second, is that on the face of the earth or not?)
I do a radio show nowadays on KALX in Berkeley where I live. KALX alumni traveling through Berkeley, feel free to stop in.
Music this week: Johnnie Osbourne, Kimya Dawson, Cracow Klezmer Quartet, Eddie Gale, Chico Buarque

Hey Chairman Tube Amp, or whatever the f@#$ your name is, how about taking your head out of your @$$ for about two seconds and enjoying the show for what it is -- fun. I'm sorry if we're not playing whatever your brand of music is, but judging from your guestbook entry, I don't imagine it would be a very entertaining one. The whole show was done in the interest of fun, and nobody was forced to be there. Somehow I doubt that people looking for redeeming social values at midnight on a Wednesday are going to put on WHRW. If you don't like the way we entertain, just shut off your damn radio. Lord knows that's what I would do if I ever heard your drivel. WHRW is all about freedom.

I loved the Female Stripper Edition of the Seth and Jeremy show this Wednesday, 9/8/99.
It's good to see young people trying to emulate the better bits of Howard Stern's show. Mostly because he is the pinnacle of all radio, but also because women get too much respect in the community as it is.
Also, nothing makes me more proud to have set up a Real Audio feed for 'HRW as when it is used to degrade women on a global scale.
Keep up the good work guys! Don't rest until you have shamed a larger percentage of your predecessors!

Wow. Eighteen years ago I wandered up those stairs and into the world of MOE, King Dred, Al Al, Dexie, Gospel Time . . . man, what a comfort zone coming from NYC. And the library (do you still have VINYL?), that scratchy old record player in there for previewing, the LEARNED Ron Drumm (does he have e-mail yet?). The 4-7 am, crashing on the couch in the office, those new turntables we got in '83 or so (sounds ancient), my 36-hour Bob Marley tribute, the Mad Trivia Party. For the next three plus years it became my home, my life, my juice and coffee. I think I ended up as some kind of Director or something, and I vaguely remember doing a program guide or two (anybody still have 'em from the early 80's?). But mostly, I remember that awesome moment when the track ended, the mic light went On Air, the "pots" went just to redline, and I felt that foam covering on the mic just centimeters from my lips as I began to speak . . . Gettin' chills just thinkin of it. Anyway, regards to anyone and everyone who remembers the early 80's, and special regards to Ron (still baking brownies?) and Tom "Signal" -- its no wonder the place is still standing. Feel free to drop me an e-mail. And keep on keepin on; I'll be listenin from my Manhattan office via RealAudio (boy if they had that back then, we'd have had more than 12 listeners). Peace, love and MOE.

Have fun in Bingoland next weekend (you might want to kiss those streets instead -- you might survive the experience. Say hey to anyone that remembers me from when I had hair. I'll be in Saluda NC at Coon Dog day. You'll have to e-mail me to find out what that's all about, but suffice it say that if you had recordings of the dogs playing simultaneously on four or more audio sources, each one beat out of synch, Moe would come, and then leave really quickly.

 Dear WHRW listeners!

I'm a 1992 graduate of SUNY-B (MA, English), and live near Detroit, MI.

I am so excited to learn that I can listen to the beloved 90.5 FM frequency once again through Real Audio!

I was with the station from 1991-92 when I was in grad school at SUNY-B (English). I apprenticed a semester, then had my own jazz show in my last semester before graduating (anyone remember my show, called "Hot House"?)

I didn't have much fun going to school at SUNY-B, but I absolutley LOVED WHRW! I'm so glad I taped all my shows. I can't empahsize enough what the station meant to me. It provided a lot of happiness that I didn't find elsewhere on campus. I also met a lot of very cool people with whom I could share my love of music.

For the past 7 years (has it been that long?) I've only been able to listen to my old tapes, and try to remember how good the station sounded. That is.....until tonight! I will be tuned in often now that I discovered your web page.

I believed then that WHRW was one of the very best stations in the country. I bet that is still true. I remember before I graduated there were problems with the old transmitter, and we were worried about getting the $$ for a new one. I'm glad to see those problems were worked out, and the broadcasting facilities are better than ever.

Again, I can't stress enough how much I loved WHRW. Let the tradition of great broadcasting continue!

I have since moved away from NY and am living in an undisclosed west coast state that isn't Washington or Oregon, but I digress. The point is that I have lost touch with the rest of the Pappys and am desperately looking for a few soft touches from the old days from whom I can borrow some quick cash. Please send any info you might have regarding Jake Silverstein to my e-mail address.
Thanks

 Hallo, WHRW, and fans!

Just wanted to take a moment(?) to tell you about my band, VERBORGEN and myself,XYRA.

Our unique genre has been tagged "Cabaret Rock Nouveau", for which I am Chanteuse and principal songwriter. We are a 7-piece band, using no synths - trained musicians playing real instruments. MY instrument is my voice, when performing. Like most songwriters, I use guitar and keyboards to compose the music accompanying my lyrics. The rest of the band embellish my basic chord structures, and write their own parts. The other instruments are: piano, cello, fretless bass, classical and electric guitars, drums and percussion, and multiwinds!

We have received non-commercial, international air play, showcased at the PMC, were reviewed by several online and hard copy publications, to include Mark Jenkins' supportive review of us for The Washington Post. Still . . . no major label deal. (We are not a pat-genre - but good, I promise you!)

The blurb -

"Echoes of Cabaret meld with hope and doom . . . lavish instrumentation looms behind the poetic prowess of a (beautiful) Chanteuse. Let Xyra & Verborgen cast a spell on YOU!"

Anyone so inclined, please check out our page! Thereon are several song samples. The most recent can be found on IUMA, by clicking on our CD album cover, Where Glass Birds Fly. Our next release, due late Spring, is entitled "FRIGHTENING BEAUTY!" (If you go there, please drop a line in our guest book!)

May WHRW stay alive and well!

Let's do our part
to make this a better world!

BEST TO ALL!
Xyra

It's was nice to read all the notes of those who have come and gone thru WHRW. Myself as an orginal member of the Hertiage crew it' s nice to see students and alumni appreciate the long legacy left by so many who have endured 24-hour radio marathons, missed classes all to participate in being heard over the airwaves. Please keep up the work and try not miss class for radio. But, if you should then its up to you make that exprience a meaningful one and you have all the resources at your fingertips do so. Creativity comes when the mic is turned on and the light over the door says "on the Air". It's show folks. Enjoyed your exprience at Suny-Binghamton you'll never forget it. See ya !!!

What a ride its been this year. On behalf of Seth, I would like to thank all station members who have helped us through basketball, the radiothon, etc. The "H" is finally getting its due. I swear more people are listening to WHRW than that star-station with that morning show that puts you to sleep rather than wake you up. Check out all those hits on our website ... pipedreamonline is salivating with envy.

From:The Gregger (bf17143 (at) binghamton (dot) edu) on Tuesday, February 16, 1999
WOW! I am loving this almost more than EVER!!! I love being on the air, and Man oh Man is WHRW-Binghamton the best station? I still get chills and thrills standing in the CD and Record Libraries and realizing all the people that have been through the same very doors (and reading the walls doesn't hurt too much!) But anyway, the Radio-Thon 2 weeks ago was one of the most exciting things I've ever done, and doing it to raise $ for "the H" made it more fulfilling.
Keep it tuned Mondays this semester to WHRW from 2:30-4:00 pm for The re-tuned "Gregger's Lair" --- The Southern Tier's Home for New Wave 80s, A Cappella, and some 60s and 70s this semester, as i transform from Jazz Gregger into Folk Gregger.
See you soon on the dial or on the RealAudio.

Love,
The Gregger

I was excited to receive the WHRW newsletter and thought it was about time I added myself to the guest book. I have great memories of WHRW (1985-89) as part of the Pop and Folk Departments. I have been living in Baltimore, MD for almost two years now and I'm loving it. Before that, it was Bloomington, IN and too-rural central Illinois. I'm still a reference librarian, helping folks with all kinds of stuff. In April '99, I am getting married and will be sharing the day with some of my best friends from Binghamton! WHRW is the greatest -- Maryland radio has a lot to learn!

Thanks for the newsletter, congrats on the continued flourishing of free radio, and great to see the site, especially the history (gave me warm fuzzies to see evidence of the 1981 radiothon for the rape crisis center besides the plaque I still keep on my office wall). Sure wish I had an audio card on my computer!

What do y'all do to pervert the new technology -- can you make CDs skip on purpose for trippy effect?

I came to the 'H to publicly worship the jazz I loved, but I ended up getting recruited unknowingly for a non-musical career by GM Steve Cohen & PA Director Matt Beck. They came up to me in the cafeteria (yes, there was life before food courts) and said "Hey Plevs -- you're a political activist -- why don't you become public affairs director next year." Me: "But I've never done a talk show in my life." Cohen: "Don't worry -- it's not hard -- and no one else wants to do it."

I ended up as a radio news director, documentary and magazine show producer, and now as press officer for Planned Parenthood. But I don't know if I ever experienced a finer thing politically than the coming together around that radiothon for the rape crisis center. And my serious professional radio never got as good as when a noontime drunk turned the tables and nterviewed me in a downtown bar about what that weird thing (the Marti) was on my back.

Other favorite memory was Tom Siglin saying "Ahah" as he pulled the needlenose pliers out of the inner works of a malufunctioning cart machine. As we gazed at the yellowed roach in the jaws of the pliers, Siglin dryly noted "This might be your problem."

Where are you everyone from that time? (Fogel, Boots, Morgenbesserguesserwesser, Siegmann, Sister Love, King Dread, Eddie OJ, Victor Camilo, Paul Goldschmitt, Mike Crane, Jah Praise, Heathrow West, Al-Al and all you others?) Lori Mozillo, remember me? I'm living in Brooklyn, busy workin & being a dad to an amazing 19-month old, and getting ready to move & embark on another career/chapter/adventure. Hope to see posts from other relics soon.

could take me back to CR1, where I spun bluegrass, the Dead
and many other tunes that cannot be categorized on many a

magical experiences brought into our lives by HRW? Do people

It was wonderful to get the WHRW newsletter. I can't wait for the reunion. I graduated SUNY-B in '83. I was a DJ in 80 - 81. My show was the "classical river." I played all sorts of classical music, including new wavish type of classical. I also played old jazz. I would, strangely enough, start off every show with Donovan's "mellow yellow." When we had school break shifts, I'd play old 60's hits and odd bits. My other co-horts in crime at the time were Roger "sluggo" Peltzman (I've known him since I was 6 years old) and Will Hermes (a totally cool, brief boyfriend). What a crew! I occasionally see Sluggo (he has a major part in the Cult of the Coat video). I hope there is a reunion soon. I sing and play guitar, and occasionally do open mikes. Once a month, I jam with a group of musicians that includes Pete Seeger. My profession, however, is that of an attorney. I help disabled individuals who are no longer able to work, apply for and obtain Social Security disability insurance benefits. I'm glad to see that WHRW still has a free format. Sometimes that can be frustrating, but it opens you up to music that you might not otherwise hear. And there is so much out there... Glad to see the WHRW alum hanging in there. Contact me, I'd love to hear from my fellow alums. LONG LIVE MOE!

It was nice to receive the Fall 98 newsletter in yesterday's mail.
Please let me know when/where the NYC alumni get-together
comes together. I have spoken/seen other moe-lumni recently
including Roger Peltzman (83), Mitch Goldman (83), Kenny Funk (83),
and Will Hermes(83). Roger is managing an incredible singer/
songwriter named Lee Feldman, whose 2nd album will be released
on Mercury this March, and plays NYC regularly. Will's music-
related pieces have recently appeared in Rolling Stone, NY Times,
Village Voice, and others. Everyone looks as good and sexy as
they did 16 years ago, except for Mitch Goldman who somehow
looks better and sexier than ever. Mitch works for the PBS/Sessions
at 54th street program that is hosted by David Byrne. As for myself,
I am still working at Agency for the Performing Arts in NYC, representing The Flecktones, Adam Sandler, Black Crowes,Jimmie's
Chicken Shack, Steven Wright, and Ron Drumm's favorite: Rosemary
Clooney. Laura Bozler (84) got married in 1986, live in Oakdale,LI
and our daughter Caitlin is 10 and son Jesse is 7. They are major
music aficianados and seasoned concert goers, and have both
fortunately outgrown Hanson. Being in the music biz this long has
made me somewhat more cynical and isolated from knowing about
and being exposed to undergound/interesting sounds that is a given
at a free-form environment like hrw. Somehow it is an understatement
to truly emphasize the important gift WHRW is, and people like
Ron Drumm, Tom Siglin, and the continuing stream of people who
flow through those studios year after year. Black, white, other, pop,
jazz, latin, urban, classical, noize, urban, reggae, and whatfuckall
is an oasis that most do not appreciate until it's a memory. I'm
not trying to get all schmaltzy on anyone, but once you leave the
comfort of such a place, music takes on many different guises while
at the same time your life takes you in other directions as well. I
have been very fortunate to have a nice career in the music industry,
and I have gotten to spend time with folks like Johnny Cash, Dave
Mathews, The Replacements, Violent Femmes, Natalie Merchant
and her Maniacs, Tony Bennett, The Pogues, and many others
over the years. My kids are non-chalant concert-goers, and I
hope that one day they will be joining the WHRW staff. As long
as we care to wait for moe's imminent arrival, then we should listen
closely for the signs that a place like hrw transmits. Those transmissions invade your system in a positive way, and hopefully
you will carry the vibes wherever your lives take you once you
leave that southern frontier, which are worth holding on to and
sharing. There are looghamites around the world, in the media,
in the operating rooms, courtrooms, brokerage floors, and some
occassionally pass out on their own particular floors. I hope to
hook up with realaudio, but the work seems daunting. If anyone
wants to email or call me at (212)582-1500, it'd be nice to hear from
you.

From:Erik Goldman (Toubab (at) Ascending (dot) org) on Thursday, December 17, 1998
Well, from the looks of the program guide, things are in good shape up there---clever show titles, wise-acring descriptions, and I have no doubt, good music. Sooner or later I'll have a fit of patience and try to download realaudio so I can actually tune in again. Might be dangerous tho---I'll have crushing pangs of regret for ever leaving Binghamton. I'll quit my jobs, my bands, my girlfriend, my ridiculous and expensive nyc life, and go running back like prodigal son, begging for a 4-7 shift and a pizza delivery job.

Can doing radio at HRW change your life? Does it really amount to anything? You betcha. Recently got some work writing capsule reviews of "essential" african/celtic/"world music" albums for a soon to be launching on-line record store. Nice work because its giving me a chance to go through the stacks, listen to stuff I havent played in years, to see if its still "essential" (whatever that means). Know what? Most of my picks so far are things I first heard and loved while djing at HRW. The musical and intellectual resources, not to mention the groovy atmosphere available up there on Planet Drumm are quite unique. Love them, enjoy them, protect them. Someday soon, the number of WHRWites (past and present) in the world relative to the population at large will reach a critical mass, and all will be redeemed, all will be made as one, vibrating to 90.5 cycles per second for all eternity.

Until that great day though, we must toil in the darkness by candlelight, with only the Dr. Bronner's soap bottle and the latest Dick's Picks for comfort and inspiration.

Nice to friggin email me once in awhile. Don't you even own an answering machine?
Who'd be there for you if you got your finger stuck in a bowling ball?
Who'd be there for you if your girlfriend decided to end your republican ways once and for all?
Damn you adam, I wanted to see you during break, but noooo, you gotta be like that.

Moe knocked on my door one evening. I heard Tom Waits singing through a megaphone. I knew I had the right station. You folks sound great! I spent the better parts of four and a half years living at the 'H. Sometimes I think about it on Highway 67, although I start to drift. I guess I drifted back then too, as many can attest. Take the time to explore, the possibilities are endless. BTW, I know who really runs the station, but I can't divulge the secret information as imparted to me from natural sources. Later.

although I'm here in Cali for the summer,a fun and strange
place, I find myself missing WHRW (sitting in the cd library

morning at 6:00 am to do a show, despite the fact that it was
summer and I was supposed to be asleep)It was all good.
Saddness. WHRW seems to me to be the highlight of Binghamton.

All right, y'all, what the funk is up! I'm gone for just over a year, and there's no sign of the Classical Department. Not that I mind that the Mozart (correctly pronounced "Mozz-ert", as any Binghamtonian knows) or Tchaikovsky isn't getting spun--SKG's got that wrapped, and they can keep it. Without the WHRW classical department, who is going to play multiple hour long Mahler symphonies at 3 a.m.? Who's going to find the classical CD with the obscenity on it? (Here's a hint--Louis Andriessen is the composer, he's Dutch, and he rocks.) Who's going to play all the CRI records? Will Edgard Varese be gathering dust? I know I wasn't the only person to play that music. I don't want to have been the last.

THE NEW MAD TRIVIA PAGE IS NOW AVAILABLE!

That's right, after countless hours of slave labor and cheap Kathy Lee Gifford-inspired outfits at a fraction of retail cost, the MAD TRIVIA PARTY website is ready for the public! (However, we do feel that somehow it will *never* be ready for the public...there's no pictures of Usher or the Backstreet Boys on it!) Check out pictures and bios of your favorite panelists, past and present, callers, sound clips, a unique "MTP history" page with information on the show's 20-year history, and more to be added soon, including an MPEG-Audio archive of every tape of every show we can get our hands on! It's unreal! If you missed the show, you can even catch each week's episode in RealAudio. It's so good, you don't even deserve to see it!! (just kidding) Anyway, check out what all the fuss is about, why high school kids love us and the FCC doesn't. The Mad Trivia Party Online at http://www.geminiweb.net/madtrivia. I'm having an identity crisis right now, because as far as I know, Dave Lieberman (me) is temporarily in London. All my friends know that I would never pose the meaningless question "Who the hell is Moe?" That other person is doing me grievous spiritual harm, and I kindly request that he (or she) cease and desist this use of my name to ask pointless questions.  finally figured out how to leave a message. Thank god for WHRW!! Southern tier radio is about the most anemic I've ever heard except for 90.5 WHRW. I'm a rock fan but can't listen to the dribble played on the "whale" or KGB. Too repetitive and corporate (I mean to we really need to be listening to Boston and Journey in the 90s? These bands sucked bad enough in the 70's and 80's). CD100 is trying to cater to the alternative crowd but you guys rule. Even though I don't like all the music you play, I applaud the originality of your programming. Keep up the good work. And lets here some more Morphine! And thanx for the expanded summer hours.

What a long, tasty trip it's been. Ted is a professional musician out here in Seattle, has his own jazz cd- should be in the Jazz library there, it's called "Dedications"- and he's working on more.  Funny, but the first time I had a chance to go online, I surfed home to Moe!
It could be for so many reasons, like New York radio is so bad, or that my last and best memory of Bingy is of sitting in CR1 three hours before graduation, or because all my fondest memories are associated with the "H".
But for whatever reason, no matter how short the time, it's good to be home.

There is nothing in the world like pulling three all nighters in a row, going to class, then work, then out "for A beer", and then crashing into the station at 4 am on a friday morning in my cat in the hat chapeau and reading the general disclaimer 5 zillion times. Life after college sucks, so I am right there with you Eran! To Reaper, Pheobe and I will manage to drag our lame bums down to Jazz land soon, I promise. Dina darling, I miss the bizzar world of your record collection. And to all my buds that I have horribly managed to somehow lose touch with, and you know who you are, we always mocked the notion that those days of insanity and pointlessness would ever be the best years of our lives... Well here's to doing it all over again, only I would play sesame street techno on the air instead of off the tiles in the bathroom. Keeps the freaks on the air, naked radio running, and make sure the Dunkin' Donuts "ashtray" cup is still behind the left turntable! How does that general disclaimer go again?

I'm supposed to be working right now. I'm just fucking off and enjoying. Boy, the HRW pull is strong. People have such fond, happy, carefree memories of their days doing radio, hanging and having fun.

I still have my tapes. I still play music. And I'm still not fitting into the mold.

All the best,

Just found you guys via the BRS Radio Directory.
Truly, truly amazing. I did a DJ and news reporting stint at
HRW in 80/81, during my senior year at SUNY B.
It was definitely one of the high points of my college
career.

I'm a PR guy now, and my company consults to IBM, Sony and
other high tech folks. Fortunately, my office is cool
enough so I can tune into HRW at will during the day.

From what little I've heard, the station hasn't changed
too much. Do you still have one of the largest music
libraries around? Still play anything but top 100?

I'd love to hear back from someone via email But really,
just being able to listen in will make every day a little
brighter.

Thank god for T1 lines and RealAudio. You've
just given me a great reason to upgrade from the RealAudio
freeware, if I'll get FM-quality sound.

Oh it does an old heart good to hear from some old friends and what they are doing...I'm now living in London and really enjoying it but being able to sign the digital equivalent of the record library "Book of Moe" makes me pine a bit for the old days. At any rate, I'm happy to put my 2 cents in..Eric, I quite like the new Stereolab. Additionally, my new current favorite group is Fila Brazillia. They are an ambient/techno group that are amazing and they are out on Pork records. Also I really recommend the High Llamas, which have some connections with Stereolab in their personnel, but the sound is very different and definitely worth hearing.
I still attribute a good portion of my musical appreciation to WHRW and it's one of thethinggs that I still really miss after all these years.
A big hello to all my friends out there and I wish I could be at the WHRW reunion/Ron Drumm B-day bash in March. Helas pour moi! Keep up the excellent work with the web page, it's really impressive and, quite honestly, really important.

So, I'm sitting here in Buffalo at one of the local radio stations
waiting to go on the overnight shift (midnight-6am)--wondering
why I subject myself to such torture. But I must say that after
graduation I was going through some serious radio withdrawl. Of course no station will every replace hrw, and visiting the homepage gives me chills but I have to say that it was quite a strange feeling to get my first paycheck a couple of weeks ago for doing something that I love. I can't wait for the first hrw concert this semester (i hope you're working on it, PR) to come up and see everyone. Talk to you later. . . . Love, Jen

Hello WHRW! I've been meaning to find the page for a long time. Congratulations on it.
I've been trying to muster up enough time to get our WHRW Alumni Club back on its feet.
Ever since Ron Russ left New York we've been less than active. But I want to change that. Anyone who's interested can send me an email. We'll try to get it back together in the Fall.
All of those great get-togethers at the Wetlands are still in peoples' minds. Send me an email if you want to get involved and help with the details.

Thanks also to the WHRW library, Ron Drumm and Jason Isaac for letting me and Joe Belluck back into the library to make mixed tapes for our upcoming wedding. The music promises to be great.

Bye for now and stay in touch all of you.

Baywatch just ended. God, the only good in this darkened
universe, is that show Baywatch. I only remember bits of stuff,
about "The Big H". Putting the mask on, making the children cry,
trying to leave my body at the right moment, there in the lobby.
I never had enough change for those damn candy machines. I
always felt so alone, sitting in a stall in that mens room,
down the hall, during an overnight show. did my time;'76-79,
'81-'84, off and on and off. Definitely a peak moment.

I want to personally congratulate y'all (get used to my
new Southern accent) who graduated yesterday. I am proud to
say that the number of station members who were inducted
into honor societies, recieved honors degrees, and in general
did outstanding academic work this year is much greater than
ever. I think this increase in intelligence has reflected in
the way the station was run this year. Despite one or two
problems, on a day-to-day basis things ran much more smoothly
than ever. I want to thank Jason, Seth, Jen, Dina, Joe, Eran,
Seth, Nicole, Alex, and everyone else who made my senior year
on the Big Board-o-directors exciting, enjoyable, and rewarding.
I apologize for being so cheezy and sentimental, but it finally
hit me that I am now a college graduate. I want to wish Paul
and the rest of the incoming Board good luck next year. Peace,
Love, Caps, Gowns, and Moe, Sether:-)

I tell you, just signing the guest book on the whrw website makes me realize how special it all is, was and will always be. As you can tell I'm being a bit nostalgic here, but I can think of nothing more deserving of nostalgia. WHRW and other things like it are few and far between; I've been out of Binghamton for about 10 years now, and I have yet to find any thing remotely close to it. (This includes other college radio stations.) That's enough misty-eyed sentiment for now, but thanks for setting up this larger version of the MOE LOGS in the record library. (Or is it the CD library now?) Take care to all and if anyone cares to drop me a line, please do so.
Yours in Moe, Dave RL

From:R K FULLER THE GREAT WHITE WHALE (FULLER (at) USIA (dot) GOV) on Monday, April 07, 1997
ALL YOU MAST HEADERS, YOU ARE TO LOOK FOR THE GREAT WHITE
WHALE.........IT'S MOBY DICK.

CONSIDER THE MYOPIC AMOEBA

From 4:09 am, the morning of your birth until the moment the
chaplin is reading your last rites, you won't understand it.
And when they cryogenically UN-freeze you and you manage
another sixty years, you still won't understand it. Had you
been given the opportunity to start at the dawn of time and
stick around to see if the universe was actually going to
collapse on itself, by the time it did, you would be so jaded
after watching the fall of Greece and Rome and the United
States, and eventually the homo sapien that you'd plum forget
what the question was in the first place.

Face it, you'll never be able to figure out the meaning of
life.

It's such a played-out topic that people wince just hearing
someone ask it. "Why are we here?" Don't mind her, she's a
philosophy major. "But why are we heerrre??" No she's not
worried about getting a job...It's almost a rhetorical
question at this point. you remark to a stranger on the bus
"My, it's a nice day today" and he replies "but why was I
ever born?" and the two of you shrug and wish you hadn't
brought up the damn weather in the first place.

Consider existence in four dimensions like relating to what
it would be like for a myopic amoeba to realize that he's
sitting on the surface of a donut. And with our 100x Fisher-
Price microscopes we can see him, and with our naked eyes the
donut and can laugh and taunt the myopic amoeba and prod him
with the end of our chem-lab equipment and then hop a cab for
Starbucks to get a tall cap, but in the end the amoeba is
still sitting there on a Boston Kreme contemplating why he's
there. God, I hope whoever's bigger than us stops prodding me
it's really starting to piss me off...

Don't worry about not getting it, I'm in the same boat you
are. I've got these little pet theories that work on alter-
nating Tuesdays but sometimes I get the feeling that it won't
be too long before the kid from the Twilight Zone thinks me
off to the cornfield for annoying him with my problems. But
I've gotten used to accepting ignorance. The view from my
bubble is actually quite nice.

A parting word, make sure to watch where you step. I have this
funny feeling there's a myopic amoeba sending out some email
to his radio buddies from a chocolate kruller as we speak.

Anyway, on a more macroscopic level:

HELP SAVE THE WHALES

later...
